Day 591: Down below

Day 591:

It was a good day to stay underground, because it was cold and rainy and miserable aboveground.

I made some pretty significant progress to the west, and only had to kill one skeleton. It has a roughly decent leather jerkin that I took off it too, so that was a nice bonus.

The duckens are slowly settling into the new spaces I’m clearing out, and I’m seriously considering laying more rail heading west just so it’s faster to get there.

Now it’s time to listen to the rain bounce off the roof of the cave and see how well I can sleep.

Day 590: Chase scenes galore

Day 590:

Today was a day of trying to get things done while murderers tried to shoot at me.

Enough of this; I’m going back underground. Let’s see if they can track me there as well as they can aboveground.

Day 589: shot!

Day 589:

One of those murderers shot me! I climbed up the high hills to the south to figure out how to lure the cows off before I got hit with one, and instead, I got shot!

The bolt pierced my leather jerkin, but only just… it looks like I need to start wearing the diamond-studded stuff when I go out to do chores until I’m sure these jerks are gone.

They are, in a word, annoying.

Okay, the more accurate word would be deadly, but if I let myself get wrapped up in the fear of the situation then I’m as good as dead. As Twylia put it in the great holiday tradition, Hogfather, don’t get afraid, get angry.

And I am angry. This was a really good jerkin! And there’s no way for me to patch a hole this big, much less get the blood out.

Day 588: anxiety

Day 588:

The murderers haven’t found me yet, but they’re definitely still in the area. As close as I can figure, they’re mad about the ones I killed… which, I mean, yeah. Even professional murderers get pissed when their allies are killed.

(Do professional murderers make friends, do you suppose?)

Anyway, I’m making progress with the things I want to do, but much more nervously, as I’m afraid any minute now a pack of roving iron-masked murderers are going to come around the corner and decide to end me.

It’s as bad as when I first landed, to be honest. I’ve learned a lot about how to survive the local fauna here, but this is a new situation altogether and definitely not a comfortable one.

What if the whole planet is hostile toward me? Except for invisible llama breeders I mean. What if they’re hostile toward me because I was nice to the invisible llama breeder?

I miss wine.

Day 587: Murderers have returned

Day 587:

Another of these roving gangs of murderers has cut through and I had to take three of them out with my bow.

One of them dropped  a crossbow. It’s in pretty rough shape, but gives me some ideas about how I might be able to build my own in the future.

Tonight, though, nervous sleep as I hope they can’t find my home, and if they can, they can’t figure out a way in.
