Day 566: An almost perfect spring day

Day 566:

Being topside this much, it’s hard not to get caught up in how beautiful it is here. The weather’s a perfect spring temperature, the fields are always filled with beloved creatures and the occasional exploding murderous mutant, the sun is out more days than not, the wind blows gently…

There are no frogs.

I would one hundred percent that it was spring every single day here, if it weren’t for the frogs. When it’s spring, the frogs sing incessantly. Other than my domesticated animals making animal noises all day like a toddler’s room gone amok, (and the occasional groan/yell/threat/hiss of a murderous mutant) there are no animal noises here. No crickets, no frogs, no songbirds…

It’s an almost perfect spring day. But not quite.

Day 565: lake uncovered

Day 565:

The lake that was an underground lake is now an overground lake and I found a really big cache of ore so that is now also liberated for the glory of The Company. Or more likely it is liberated to make underground tunnels so I don’t get murdered traveling to the big mountain. But you get the idea.

There were more exploding giraffe-corgis this morning but I “dispatched” them pretty quickly. The wood here grows so straight that it’s easy to carve good arrow shafts, and I think that’s most of what’s saving me because deep space knows I have no idea how aerodynamics work.

Well, I’m getting a gut feel for it at this point, but I couldn’t explain why it works.

Day 564: nope

Day 564:

Today was “get greeted by 3 exploding giraffe-corgis at the front door” day.

I hate “get greeted by 3 exploding giraffe-corgis at the front door” day.

I went back to bed. Slept a long time, got up, shot the explosion beasts, made some ducken soup, and now I’m going back to bed again.

Day 563: Going overboard, as usual

Day 563:

Well it took all day but I got the convenient ore out of the mine and left the inconvenient stuff behind. I’ll come back for it some other day.

My legs ache and my skin is really wrinkled from all the water I’ve been in and out of. I’m hydrated — the little lake is pretty pristine and definitely seems drinkable– but very cold. I don’t really want to get hypothermia, so I think it’s time to melt some rock or something in the furnace just to ensure that the rest of the chambers in my cave house get warm enough.

Very glad I made that ducken-skin mattress and cow leather blanket now.

Day 562: Underwater mining

Day 562:

It is much harder to do just about anything in water than it is to do the same thing without water, except possibly swim.

I spent most of the day mining out that lake only to discover it open into another underground chamber.

So I’m scouting around a bit but trying not to get too involved. I’m over here to free the lake, not mine out yet another chunk of land.

(Yes I am making more pickaxes for tomorrow. Why do you ask?)
