Day 593: Walking

Day 593:

It took me almost half the day to walk to the location where I’m digging an underground tunnel to get to the big mountain. This place is huge and imposing and I’m thinking maybe it’s time to lay some rail down here too.

Because whew, it’s not like I can go out and buy a pair of running shoes to deal with this.

The boots that I’ve fished out of the lake, when they fit, have been kind enough to my feet, I suppose. Blisters and wear marks and all that are to be expected when you’re wearing someone else’s shoes, especially someone else’s shoes from the bottom of a lake.

But what I’d give for some no-grav lifts!

Day 592: pumpkins

Day 592:

Another cold and rainy morning but by the evening it had cleared enough for me to check on my gardens and my animals.

The animals are doing fine and, as usual, are so happy to be fed that they started, uhm, procreating, immediately.

The garden wasn’t doing as well. The pumpkins aren’t growing quite the way I thought they would and appear to need a lot of space around them. I’ve cleared one full end of the garden for them but I’m not super confident that this is going to go well.

Which is a shame because I really do need a break from carrots.

Day 591: Down below

Day 591:

It was a good day to stay underground, because it was cold and rainy and miserable aboveground.

I made some pretty significant progress to the west, and only had to kill one skeleton. It has a roughly decent leather jerkin that I took off it too, so that was a nice bonus.

The duckens are slowly settling into the new spaces I’m clearing out, and I’m seriously considering laying more rail heading west just so it’s faster to get there.

Now it’s time to listen to the rain bounce off the roof of the cave and see how well I can sleep.

Day 590: Chase scenes galore

Day 590:

Today was a day of trying to get things done while murderers tried to shoot at me.

Enough of this; I’m going back underground. Let’s see if they can track me there as well as they can aboveground.

Day 589: shot!

Day 589:

One of those murderers shot me! I climbed up the high hills to the south to figure out how to lure the cows off before I got hit with one, and instead, I got shot!

The bolt pierced my leather jerkin, but only just… it looks like I need to start wearing the diamond-studded stuff when I go out to do chores until I’m sure these jerks are gone.

They are, in a word, annoying.

Okay, the more accurate word would be deadly, but if I let myself get wrapped up in the fear of the situation then I’m as good as dead. As Twylia put it in the great holiday tradition, Hogfather, don’t get afraid, get angry.

And I am angry. This was a really good jerkin! And there’s no way for me to patch a hole this big, much less get the blood out.
