Day 621: falling skeletons

Day 621:

Dug too close to the surface too late into the evening, broke the ground above me, had skeletons pouring into the space I was mining. I was supposed to be packing up and instead I was fighting for my life. I won, but not before getting knicked a couple of times by flying arrows and falling on my butt at least once.

Do you know what I’d do for a kiss from my mom and a bologna and cheese with mayonnaise right now?

Just about anything.

Day 620: losing it

Day 620:

If I wasn’t already pretty confident that this was all a fever dream I’d swear I’m losing my mind.

I’m standing in a chamber just under the surface, where it’s safe from monsters but where I can dig the occasional skylight to get actual healthy light in here.

And I could swear I hear a mine cart rolling underground.

But the mine carts I built are dozens of meters away… and besides, I’d feel their vibrations to one side or the other, not below.

So I’ve added a mission to my chamber clean-up work: see if I can figure out what’s causing that odd vibration. Because that’s just creepy.

Day 619: Water and waterfalls

Day 619:

I dig under a lot of water sources… the bay, the river, the ponds in my barnyard…

Some of them I’ll let flow into the caverns. It’s good to have fresh drinking water and a source of protection against fire.

Others, like the ones in the barnyard, not so much. Granted, since the animals here still don’t seem to poop, it isn’t a hazardous waste problem… but you haven’t lived until you stuck your shovel into some dirt and had a waterfall of ducken fall into the chamber with you.

Which I’m betting means none of you have lived. Good for you! Go on with your bad undead self!

Day 618: wall quacks

Day 618:

Some people have rats in their walls. Some people have skeletons in their closets. I have skeletons, but not in my closets. Instead, I have ducken in my walls.

Apparently the slippery little critters are moving past me when I’m building up secure walls and getting stuck, because now that I’m tearing down some of my walls to make them more secure, every once in a while there’s a wide-set pair of beady eyes staring at me over a yellow beak when I tear the wall down…

To be honest, it’s amazed I haven’t killed one yet, considering how many of what surprises me in these chambers really are out to kill me.

Day 617: other distractions

Day 617:

So I’m digging toward the village, except that I’m not digging toward the village…

Today I dug straight out for a while and then cleaned up some of the space… and when I drew the new chambers into my map I realized I had a couple of chambers that are misshapen or weird or jut out funny so that there’s probably  only a few meters of rock between them and the chambers next to them. So I’m going to clean them up while I’m at it.

This sounds like a time waster but it’s really about stability. If I can build strong walls on other strong walls there’s much less of a chance of something collapsing. Which is good, as I am breakable.
