Day 618: wall quacks

Day 618:

Some people have rats in their walls. Some people have skeletons in their closets. I have skeletons, but not in my closets. Instead, I have ducken in my walls.

Apparently the slippery little critters are moving past me when I’m building up secure walls and getting stuck, because now that I’m tearing down some of my walls to make them more secure, every once in a while there’s a wide-set pair of beady eyes staring at me over a yellow beak when I tear the wall down…

To be honest, it’s amazed I haven’t killed one yet, considering how many of what surprises me in these chambers really are out to kill me.

Day 617: other distractions

Day 617:

So I’m digging toward the village, except that I’m not digging toward the village…

Today I dug straight out for a while and then cleaned up some of the space… and when I drew the new chambers into my map I realized I had a couple of chambers that are misshapen or weird or jut out funny so that there’s probably  only a few meters of rock between them and the chambers next to them. So I’m going to clean them up while I’m at it.

This sounds like a time waster but it’s really about stability. If I can build strong walls on other strong walls there’s much less of a chance of something collapsing. Which is good, as I am breakable.

Day 616: more murderers

Day 616: I was attacked by not one, but two sets of murderers over the past two days. (The skeleton on the pony spider kind of took priority, sorry.)

So I’m thinking that if I want to head to that village, I’d better do it underground, for the same reasons that I  avoid topside during the night. No point getting murdered on the lawn when  I can be safe below.

Which you know means I’m going to get distracted by a whole lot of ore, as usual 🙂

Day 615: I saw a what now?

Day 615:

Today I got attacked by a skeleton riding a pony-sized spider.

Yes, you read that right.

So apparently the spiders are strong enough to ride? Or at least for a skeleton to ride? I don’t really know the difference in weight between my skeleton and the rest of me, so maybe that’s significant and maybe it’s not.

This is one of the many things that having access to the ‘net would be handy for.

Meanwhile: at least one skeleton has decided to attack me from a mount, which makes me wonder once again whether this is one of those brain damage dream scenarios. My comatose brain has gotten bored, perhaps.

Day 614: kablooey

Day 614:

I’m getting more and more crowds of exploding giraffe-corgis when I’m outdoors and I have to say I’m not a fan.

But I’m also not willing to just give up my ability to go outside to them.

The problem appears to be the high grass — which is good for the animals, and was good for my safety when I was trying to hide per The Company’s orders. But hey, it’s been over 600 days now, I’ve proven there’s other life on this planet that could have built the buildings I now inhabit… I think it’s safe to mow the lawn.

Or at least, it would be if the lawn was already mowed. It will be safer once the lawn is mowed? That’s what I’m going for here.
