Day 219:more caverns

Day 219:

Found a big vertical cavern that looks like a tube.

It’s got lava at the bottom.

I think I found an active volcano.

I’m giving that one some space.

Day 218: repetitive

Day 218:

Three times I have walled in a river, and three times a giraffe-corgi has blown up destroying the wall.

This river apparently wants to be free.

Day 217: bad parenting

Day 217:

Swear to cod, they’re starting to use me as some kind of hazing ritual.

I was digging out a bit of coal earlier — finally found a nice-sized seam so that takes some pressure off — and I hear three medium-sized thunks as an adult zombie and two children jumped down from somewhere higher up.

First one kid came after me, then the other… but the adult just stood back and watched for at least the first five minutes or so, which was way more time than I needed to dispatch the green monsterlets.

I think it was there to observe whether the kids were able to take me out.

I killed it too.

Maybe I’m doing too much anthropomorphic personification. Maybe the adult actually had fallen poorly and had its hip busted or something.

Still, it was creepy. I was glad to be rid of all of them.

Think I’m building a roof to this part of the ravine soon just for head coverage.

Day 216: raining monsters

Day 216:

Biggest disadvantage of working in this ravine is that the monsters above me tend to decide I’m tasty-looking enough to jump off cliffs for. I never know when I’m going to hear a bone-crunching **thud** behind me, followed by a somewhat pathetic groan of some purple-dressed lunatic, zombie, skeleton, or giraffe-corgi.

Half the time killing them is doing them a favor. The other half of the time killing them is doing me a favor.

Day 215: maps

Day 215:

I feel pretty comfortable that my maps are correct and I’ve made some paths through space that make it easier to get from place to place. It appears that, using the standard measurement system we use at The Company, the structure that I’ve made is about 15 Levels deep, though not all of them are mined out. Here’s a thumbnail of what I’ve got.

an incredibly complicated map of 15 levels (from above) in multiple colors with stairways and waterways and lava all marked.
Sorry if it’s a bit fuzzy-looking. My latest batch of ink is crap. Still working on that.

So that’s a thing I’ve accomplished. Not sure it’ll ever do anyone any good, but when they come to rescue me I’ll probably leave it on the table for the next stranded soul.
